This discovery sparked an obsession, as the idea of a lone phone booth in such a remote location seemed surreal to him 1. Intrigued, Doc began calling the booth's number, letting it ring endlessly, captivated by the thought of who might answer. "I just kind of became obsessed," he admitted, as he found himself dialing the number multiple times a day, even encouraging friends to do the same 2. This fascination with the phone booth became a personal ritual, akin to sending signals into the ether, hoping for a response.

   

Going Viral

The Mojave Phone Booth's allure grew beyond Doc's personal obsession when he created a webpage for it, inadvertently sparking global interest. What began as a solitary curiosity transformed into an international sensation, with people from around the world calling the booth, eager to connect with whoever might answer 3. "Next thing you know, I'd go to my PO box, and there would be clippings about the Mojave phone booth from newspapers in languages that I didn't read," Doc recounted. The phone booth became a symbol of connection, drawing calls from diverse places like Vietnam and Iran, transcending language barriers and emphasizing the universal desire for human connection.
