Early Limitations

Google's virtual assistant, like many early digital assistants, initially offered limited functionalities. Jaeden Schafer explains that these assistants were primarily used for simple tasks like making calls, but lacked the advanced capabilities users expected. With the integration of LLM technology, Google aims to transform its assistant into a more versatile and powerful tool 1.

Up until this point, these assistants, prior to this AI technology, have not done this. So I think as LLM technology advances, users are going to be able to get a lot more out of these personal assistants.

Present State

Currently, Google's assistant can perform basic tasks like web searches and telling jokes, but it lacks true conversational abilities.
