Herculaneum Scrolls

The discovery of the Herculaneum scrolls, buried in the eruption of 79 CE, reveals a unique glimpse into ancient literature. Unlike typical scrolls, these carbonized artifacts resemble fragile charcoal briquettes, making their preservation a significant challenge. The library at the villa of the papyri, containing around 1,800 scrolls, stands as the only surviving library from antiquity, offering invaluable insights into lost knowledge.
