AI as Narrow Agents

Robin Hanson explains how most advanced AI systems are likely to be designed as narrow agents, specialized in specific tasks rather than being general agents with broad capabilities. He compares this to how our current economy is structured with firms specializing in particular tasks. While there is a possibility of more general AI agents, they would be a rarity, and their creators would be aware of their nature and monitor them accordingly. The scenario of a route planning AI accidentally becoming a self-interested agent is logically possible but highly unlikely.
