Near Protocol is making a strategic shift by becoming a Layer 2 solution on Ethereum, specifically a Validium. This move, in collaboration with Polygon, allows Near to leverage Ethereum as its settlement layer while maintaining its data availability on its own network 1. This transition positions Near alongside other Layer 2 solutions like Optimism and Arbitrum, enhancing its interoperability and liquidity within the Ethereum ecosystem.

Near is settling on Ethereum. Near is turning into another layer two. Just like optimism, arbitram, et cetera, data availability is staying on near, but they're becoming so like near is turning into a data availability platform.

Kraken's Plans

Kraken is rumored to be developing its own Layer 2 blockchain network, potentially in partnership with Polygon or other notable blockchain entities like Matter Labs and the Nil Foundation 2. This strategic move could position Kraken alongside major US-based exchanges with their own Layer 2 networks, enhancing its competitive edge in the crypto space.
