Screendoor Goals

Screendoor, co-founded by Satya Patel and Hunter Walk, aims to enhance diversity in venture capital by supporting underrepresented groups. The initiative seeks to replicate the virtuous cycle of investment success by empowering diverse venture capitalists who, in turn, fund diverse founders and hire diverse employees 1. This approach is expected to generate significant economic returns and create generational wealth within these communities 2. Patel emphasizes that Screendoor is not concessionary capital but a strategic effort to uncover overlooked opportunities and drive exceptional returns 3.

Our goal is pretty simple. We want to generate outsized returns for our limited partners by helping to put underrepresented check riders into business with capital and council.

The initiative is structured to leverage Homebrew's existing relationships and expertise to support this new wave of venture capitalists.

   

GP Support

Screendoor provides robust support mechanisms for underrepresented general partners (GPs) in the venture ecosystem. Each GP is paired with mentor GPs from the coalition, offering both formal and informal guidance to address challenges and enhance their success 4. The selection process is open and inclusive, focusing on individuals who demonstrate core venture capital skills, even if they lack traditional investing backgrounds 5. Patel highlights the importance of identifying candidates who can articulate their unique value in the market and are committed to building sustainable firms, not just funds.

We want to run as open a process as possible because we realize that a lot of the GPs that we do end up supporting will not be well connected in the valley and amongst other venture capitalists and LP's.
