FERC Reforms

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) is actively pursuing reforms to alleviate grid bottlenecks, a critical step in addressing the current transmission challenges. Rob Gramlich highlights that these reforms, particularly at the regional level, are less controversial and are expected to proceed despite changes in FERC's leadership. He notes, "I think we'll get process reforms both from FERC and at the regional level that will improve the situation to some extent." 1 However, Gramlich emphasizes that while these reforms may reduce interconnection times, they won't fully resolve the issue without significant grid buildout.

   

Regional Strategies

Regional efforts are crucial in streamlining interconnection processes and reducing congestion through better planning and cooperation. Rob Gramlich explains that while there is a significant backlog of generation projects, strategic planning and buildout can address these challenges. He states, "If you do the planning, permitting and paying well, we can do that. And again, we did it before." 2 Local opposition remains a hurdle, but with effective community engagement and economic incentives, it can be managed. 3
