MDMA and Oxytocin

MDMA significantly increases circulating oxytocin levels, but this surge does not drive the pro-social effects associated with the drug. Studies show that while oxytocin levels rise, the actual enhancement of sociability stems from dopamine and serotonin activation in the brain. Interestingly, even with elevated oxytocin from nasal sprays, no increase in sociability was observed, highlighting a complex interaction between these neurotransmitters.
