Understanding REM Sleep

REM sleep is the phase where dreaming occurs and the brain reorganizes daily information, while NREM sleep focuses on physical recovery. Typically, REM sleep makes up 20% to 25% of total sleep time, with more occurring in the latter part of the night. Interestingly, during REM, the body remains still despite an accelerated heart rate, contrasting with the deep, restorative state of NREM sleep.
