I'm trying to do a high-intensity interval workout to test my V02 max, but after listening to some podcasts, I am concerned that the Tabata routine is maybe more medium intensity rather than high intensity. It certainly feels hard, and I want to stop after 3 rounds. I am pooped at the end of the 20 minutes and want to lie down for 15 minutes. Does that mean it's high enough intensity, or should I be doing something different?
For HIIT, can I do Tabata with 20 seconds of jump rope, rest for 10 seconds, then 20 seconds of kettlebell swings, rest for 10 seconds, and repeat 4 rounds?
I currently do a kettlebell Tabata for 20 minutes, with 30 seconds on and 30 seconds off.
