Dr. Morgan Levine explains that epigenetic age acceleration, or the discordance between chronological age and predicted age based on epigenetic clocks, is biologically meaningful and largely impacted by lifestyle and environmental factors such as smoking, exercise, diet, and stress. Women who undergo menopause experience an acceleration in epigenetic aging, and socioeconomic status also plays a role in differences in epigenetic age.
