The Expansion Challenge

In the mid-60s, Bank of America's credit card network expanded internationally, attracting hundreds of banks and millions of cardholders. However, they soon realized that their assumptions and business practices wouldn't scale to such a large network. The cardinal sin of assuming all customers were like themselves became apparent, leading to the need for distinction between issuing banks and merchant banks.
