Which exercises are best for developing external rotation in the shoulder?
Should I have dedicated external rotation exercises in my lifting sessions? My goals are to get to intermediate in all compound lifts and add muscle mass. Are dedicated external rotation exercises a waste of time (since you don't need to work on them unless you have a rotator cuff injury, like Dr. Mike Israetel says) assuming you still have some other rear delt exercise instead? Are they helpful for strengthening the rear delt and shoulder mobility, and as such helpful for preventing injury while still adding significant muscle mass? If I were to do them, I would do face pulls Jeff Cavaliere style, where you really focus on the external rotation part of a face pull.
