The Dome's History

The Dome of the Rock has a complex history, serving various religious purposes over the centuries. Initially damaged by earthquakes, it was rebuilt in 1022 and later transformed into a church by Christian crusaders. After Saladin's conquest in 1187, it regained its status as a Muslim shrine, adorned with a crescent. The Ottoman period brought further changes, including exterior tiles and new artwork, showcasing the evolving significance of this iconic structure.
