Vietnam's Path to Independence

The rejection at Versailles propelled Ho Chi Minh toward communism, igniting a nationalist movement in Vietnam. The Japanese occupation during World War II created a power vacuum that the Viet Minh exploited, leading to their declaration of independence in 1945. As the Cold War emerged, U.S. support for France against the communist Viet Minh marked a significant shift in American foreign policy, culminating in the end of French colonial rule after the decisive Battle of Dien Bien Phu in 1954.
