Looms and Data

Bouchon's early programmable loom paved the way for the automation of textile production, allowing for complex designs through a perforated paper tape. This concept evolved with the Jacquard loom, which utilized punch cards to control weaving patterns mechanically, setting a precedent for data storage systems. The punch card system later influenced early computing, as seen in Hollerith's innovations for the 1890 US census, marking a significant leap in data processing efficiency.
