The War of 1812

The War of 1812 emerged from a blend of American desires for expansion and British support for Native resistance in the Northwest Territories. As the U.S. population grew, so did the ambitions of the Warhawks, who sought to annex British Canada. Meanwhile, ongoing European conflicts, particularly the Napoleonic Wars, diverted British attention, framing North America as a mere sideshow in a larger geopolitical struggle.
