Axis Alliances Formed

The signing of the Berlin-Rome Protocol in 1936 marked a pivotal moment in European alliances, as Italy and Germany sought to solidify their influence during the Spanish Civil War. This was followed by the Anti-Comintern Pact, aimed primarily at countering the Soviet Union, which later saw Italy joining in 1937. The Pact of Steel in 1939 further cemented the military alliance between Italy and Germany, despite Japan's differing priorities, ultimately leading to unexpected diplomatic moves with the Soviets.
