Early Colonial Struggles

Raleigh's initial attempts at colonization were fraught with challenges, from supply issues to strained relations with local tribes. The first colony, intended as a military base, quickly faltered due to reliance on the native population for survival and a lack of resources. Undeterred, Raleigh launched a second effort, aiming for a more sustainable settlement with families, yet the colonists found themselves inadvertently drawn back to Roanoke Island.
