Origins of Arbor Day

The first recorded efforts of reforestation date back to 1594 in Spain, but the modern concept of Arbor Day was born in the unlikely setting of Nebraska. Julius proposed a dedicated day for tree planting, which led to the inaugural Arbor Day in 1872, resulting in over a million trees planted. His passion for trees stemmed from their vital role in protecting crops and the environment, highlighting the importance of conservation in a treeless landscape.
