Anzac Origins

The unique status of Australia and New Zealand during World War I allowed them to support the war effort while maintaining a quasi-colonial identity. Both nations quickly mobilized their forces, leading to significant early victories in the Pacific, including the expulsion of German forces from New Guinea and Samoa. As the war progressed, the formation of the Anzac corps marked a pivotal moment, emphasizing the desire for national identity and unity among the troops from these countries.
