Knights of Malta

After being evicted from Jerusalem, the knights transitioned to a naval fleet based in Rhodes, establishing themselves as a sovereign entity. Their time in Malta began with a unique tribute, which included the annual delivery of a falcon. Despite facing a significant siege from the Ottomans, the knights successfully defended Malta for nearly three centuries, turning it into a prosperous nation amidst the Mediterranean. However, the rise of the Protestant Reformation began to challenge their influence and power in Europe.
