Coffee's journey in Europe began with papal approval, transforming it into a popular alternative to alcohol. By the mid-17th century, coffee houses flourished, becoming centers of political discourse, much to the chagrin of King Charles II. The opening of the first coffee house in Vienna marked a significant expansion of coffee culture, while the Dutch broke the Arabian monopoly on coffee cultivation, paving the way for its global spread.
