Atmospheric Evolution
Over geologic time, nitrogen accumulated in the atmosphere due to volcanic activity, remaining inert and allowing for its buildup. Oxygen, on the other hand, is highly reactive and its presence is largely attributed to photosynthesis initiated by cyanobacteria. This process led to significant increases in atmospheric oxygen levels, which not only transformed the planet but also allowed for the existence of giant insects during the Carboniferous period.In this clip
