Origins of Paris

The history of Paris stretches back over 2000 years, beginning with the Gallic settlement of Lutetia. As the Romans transformed Lutetia into a thriving city, it eventually became the capital of the province of Gallia. Following the decline of the Roman Empire, the Franks, led by Clovis, established Paris as their capital, setting the stage for its rise as a dominant political and cultural center in France.
