Embodiment of Liberty

The female embodiment of liberty in the U.S. draws inspiration from the Roman goddess Libertas, with the statue designed to symbolize peace rather than war. Initially dubbed "Liberty enlightening the world," the statue was a collaborative effort between France and the U.S., showcasing the generosity of ordinary citizens and industrialists alike. The project gained momentum with the construction of the torch, which was displayed in New York before the statue's eventual completion.
