The introduction of the long-playing disc revolutionized sound quality, allowing more music on each side. As technology progressed, the cumbersome reel-to-reel gave way to the more user-friendly eight-track and later the compact cassette, which popularized mixtapes. The digital compact disc emerged as a superior format, offering better sound quality and durability, but it marked the end of major physical music formats as the internet began to reshape how we consume music.
