Nubians traded valuable goods like ebony, copper, and gold with Egypt, leading to significant cultural exchange and intermarriage. Despite periods of cooperation, tensions escalated as Egypt expanded southward, conquering Nubia for nearly 500 years. The eventual rise of a Nubian viceroy marked a turning point, as the blurred cultural lines between the two regions paved the way for the establishment of the new kingdom of Cush.
