Final Emancipation Steps

Emancipation in the U.S. unfolded in stages, with Mississippi celebrating on May 8 and Georgia on May 29. Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19, 1865, marked the announcement of freedom in Texas, highlighting the delayed impact of the Emancipation Proclamation.
