Origins of Barbecue

The Taino people introduced a sacred cooking method called barabiku, which involved slow roasting fish over a pit fire. This technique caught the attention of Spanish explorers, leading to the evolution of the term barbacoa, which eventually morphed into barbecue in English. By the 18th century, barbecue had transformed into a social event, celebrated across the colonies and recognized in early dictionaries as both a noun and a verb.
