Economic Shifts in USSR

Lenin's pragmatic economic reforms allowed for some market freedoms, temporarily easing the harsh agricultural policies that had disincentivized production. However, with Stalin's rise, a dramatic shift occurred as he collectivized farms and targeted landowning kulaks, leading to severe repercussions, particularly in Ukraine. The centralization of agriculture under Stalin's first five-year plan exacerbated existing inequalities, crippling productivity while demanding ever-increasing grain quotas from the region.
