Tonga's Hidden Volcano

Tonga's underwater volcano, previously overlooked, gained attention after a significant eruption in 2014-2015 that merged two islands into one. This geological marvel, known as Hunga Tonga Hunga Ha'apai, is part of the Kermadec Tonga subduction zone, where tectonic plates collide, leading to frequent seismic activity. Despite its recent eruption history, the volcano has remained relatively quiet, but a buildup of magma suggests it may not be done yet.
