Red Ball Express

The Red Ball Express was a vital supply route during WWII, initiated on August 21, 1944, to transport essential supplies from Cherbourg to Chartres. Despite many drivers lacking experience, the military prioritized speed and efficiency over training, leading to trucks often carrying double their intended load. Notably, around 75% of the drivers were African American, reflecting the racial dynamics of the military at the time, as they were often relegated to support roles rather than combat positions.
