Nero's Golden House

Nero's extravagant palace, the Domus Aurea, was a monumental feat of architecture and opulence, featuring gold leaf, frescoes, and even a rotating dome. After Nero's downfall, much of the palace was dismantled to make way for the Colosseum. Rediscovered in the 15th century, the ruins inspired Renaissance artists and remain a hidden gem of Roman art, despite ongoing preservation challenges.
