National Parks Evolution

From 1899 to 1913, Buffalo soldiers played a crucial role in the administration of national parks, with Captain Young becoming the first black superintendent of Sequoia National Park. The Antiquities Act of 1906 marked a significant shift in protecting cultural sites, allowing the president to designate national monuments. Ultimately, the establishment of the National Park Service in 1916 aimed to unify park management, although challenges in creating a coherent system persisted.
