Uncontacted Tribes Today

Approximately 100 uncontacted tribes exist worldwide, with a total population around 10,000. The Sentinelese of North Sentinel Island fiercely protect their isolation, having violently resisted contact with outsiders. In contrast, the Indonesian province of Papua may host up to 40 uncontacted tribes, some of whom are believed to practice cannibalism, highlighting the stark differences in how these communities engage with the outside world.
