Gnosticism's Early Critics

Much of what is known about Gnosticism comes from its critics, particularly Irenaeus, who provided a foundational critique in his work against heresies. Other notable figures, like Tertullian and Origen, also challenged Gnostic beliefs, emphasizing orthodox Christianity's stance on resurrection and scripture. The diversity of Gnostic factions, such as the Sethians and Valentinians, emerged during a time when Christianity was still finding its organizational footing.
