Man-Made Famines

The 20th century marked a shift in the causes of famines, with many becoming man-made disasters rather than the result of natural events. Notably, the Great Chinese Famine led to the deaths of an estimated 50 million people due to government policies during the Great Leap Forward. Today, while food scarcity has largely been addressed globally, civil wars in Africa continue to fuel modern famines.
