Rise and Fall

The Templars established an early form of banking by issuing notes for deposited money, becoming one of the first multinational corporations. Their wealth allowed them to fund wars, purchase lands, and even build a fleet, but their decline began as they lost influence and territory in the late 13th century. King Philip IV of France, deeply indebted to the Templars, sought to eliminate their power, setting the stage for their dramatic downfall.
