Joe Medicine Crow's military exploits during World War II are legendary, showcasing his bravery and strategic prowess. He completed the first of four acts required to become a Crow War Chief by leading a daring assault on a German bunker, earning a Bronze Star for gallantry 1. In a remarkable encounter, Joe disarmed a German soldier in hand-to-hand combat, fulfilling two more requirements by touching an enemy without killing them and taking an enemy's weapon 1.

Joe advanced with his men under fire and managed to take out the bunker with the explosives.

Heroic Horse Rescue

Joe Medicine Crow's daring rescue of thoroughbred racehorses marked the completion of his journey to becoming a Crow War Chief. Armed with only a rope and a Colt 1911 pistol, he snuck into a German camp and led 50 horses to safety, fulfilling the final requirement of stealing an enemy's horse 3. This act of bravery not only earned him the title of War Chief but also solidified his legacy as a hero among his people.

Against all odds, he managed to achieve the fourth and final requirement to become a Crow War Chief.
