The Zone of Death in Yellowstone National Park presents a unique legal loophole due to its location across state lines. This creates a situation where a crime committed there could theoretically go unpunished.

If a crime were to be committed in the 50 sq mi of the Idaho section of Yellowstone National park, according to the 6th amendment to the constitution, the jury would have to consist of people who live in both the Wyoming federal district and the state of Idaho. The problem is, no one lives in both of those places.

The zone of death has been a useful plot device for fiction writers. In the tv series Yellowstone, there is a place they always go to dump bodies called the train station, which is based on the zone of death.
