Julius Caesar

Cleopatra's rise to power was marked by her intelligence and political acumen. Fluent in multiple languages and skilled in diplomacy, she navigated a tumultuous family dynamic and external pressures from Rome. Her alliance with Julius Caesar began when she seduced him to gain Rome's backing in her conflict with her brother, Ptolemy XIII 1. This relationship not only solidified her position but also resulted in the birth of their son, Caesarion 2.

Caesar had a reputation of being a ladies man and Cleopatra used this to her advantage. She went on the charm offensive and worked on seducing Caesar to get him on her side.

Despite Caesar's assassination, Cleopatra's political maneuvers ensured her continued rule, albeit with increasing Roman oversight 2.

   

Mark Antony

Cleopatra's relationship with Mark Antony began under similar circumstances to her affair with Caesar, but it evolved into a deeper partnership. Initially summoned by Antony, Cleopatra's charm and political savvy led to a decade-long alliance and marriage, producing three children 3. This union, however, was fraught with political tension, especially given Antony's existing marriage to Octavian's sister.

The impetus behind the relationship was similar to that of Caesar and Cleopatra. However, Mark Antony and Cleopatra actually seemed to be in love with each other.
