Canada Day, originally known as Dominion Day, marks the anniversary of the British North American Act of 1867, which established the Canadian Confederation. Initially, the holiday was not widely celebrated, with most festivities being small and local. However, the Canadian Centennial in 1967 sparked a renewed interest in the holiday, leading to larger celebrations across the country 1. The entire process of passing the bill was, I have to say, a bit shady, but totally legal.
