The Peace of Westphalia marked a pivotal shift in the concept of sovereignty, transitioning from a chaotic system of overlapping claims to the establishment of distinct nation-states. The peace of Westphalia basically did away with all of that. It established the idea that there are countries with borders, and how each country is run or administered within those borders is up to that country.
