Cultural Celebrations

Gary recounts his experiences attending various cultural and religious celebrations worldwide. He describes stumbling upon a Hindu Holi festival in Singapore, where he spent hours photographing the vibrant event, resulting in pastel-colored hair and dyed clothes. He also shares his experiences in Jerusalem during Holy Week, witnessing Passover and visiting the Church of the Holy Sepulchre on Easter Sunday for Western Christians and Palm Sunday for Orthodox Christians 1 2.

I could probably spend an entire episode talking about everything I learned and experienced that week, but those two things would definitely be the highlights.

Favorite Destinations

Gary discusses some of his favorite travel destinations and the unique experiences that made them memorable. He highlights his trips to Alaska, particularly the lesser-visited parks like Katmai National Park and Wrangel St. Elias National Park. He also mentions his piecemeal exploration of England, noting that he has yet to visit the northern regions 3 4.

There are a few places that get most of the visitors, like Yellowstone, Yosemite, and the Grand Canyon, but there are plenty of interesting places beyond that.

He explains how a single episode on the Mount Tambora eruption of 1815 led to multiple episodes on other significant volcanoes and related topics. This pattern of discovery extends to various subjects, including planets, elements, rivers, and small countries 3.
