I have had trouble with memory recall ever since I can remember. I struggle to remember the 5 words you gave me a few moments ago or to recall a conversation I had yesterday. My son, who is 27, is also experiencing the same issue. Is this something we could have been born with, and is there anything we can do to change this?
Dear Andrew, I love your podcast and website; thank you for sharing valuable information with us all. I have two questions: 1. Why does our short-term memory start (or seem to) fail as we age? I’m nearly 52, and despite being smart, super healthy, and nicknamed "Rainman" for my outstanding memory, I have noticed my short-term memory getting worse in the last few years. I have a hard time remembering people’s names and details of events, but my long-term memory is still strong. 2. I have a friend who is beyond obsessed with diet and exercise, to the point where it is all she can focus on—her keto diet and getting in hours of exercise daily. She is married with three kids and often falls short on commitments, “forgetting” or being late, making her unreliable for most things. Although she is very dedicated to her fitness routine and every morsel that goes into her mouth, it seems to be the only thing she can focus on or even talk about. This has been going on for about three years. How can people break this cycle into a healthier version? How, as her friends and family, can we help her without attacking her and her habits or putting her on the defense? Thank you for your time! Beth
