I'm trying to optimize my daily routine. I'm a lawyer (specialized in corporate law) and a writer. I have 7 novels written, but none published yet. I'm trying to schedule a daily time for editing/re-writing and a time for creative writing (writing new things). I'm also trying to improve my physical fitness by going to the gym to lift weights from Monday to Friday and doing cardio on weekends. I'm aiming to have two deep work sessions daily (one for writing and one for law), for about two hours each, and about one or two hours for shallow work. Additionally, I'm scheduling a couple of hours per day for reading: one for reading novels and one for reading non-fiction; ideally fiction in the evenings and non-fiction in the mornings. Here's what I've scheduled so far: 06:00 to 06:30: Waking up and writing down dreams (for psychoanalytical purposes). 06:30 to 07:00: Breakfast and checking my agenda for the day. 07:00 to 08:00: Reading non-fiction. 08:00 to 09:00: Exercise. 09:00 to 10:00: Shower, getting ready, and reading some news. 10:00 to 11:00: Legal shallow work. 11:00 to 13:00: Legal deep work. 13:00 to 14:00: Lunch and checking messages from friends and family. 14:00 to 15:00: Shallow work (legal or regarding writing). 15:00 to 17:00: Deep work (writing and editing). 17:00 to 18:00: Hobbies (music, drawing, painting, taking walks). 18:00 to 18:30: Meditation. 18:30 to 19:00: Dinner. 19:00 to 20:00: Reading fiction. 20:00 to 22:00: Quality time with my girlfriend. 22:00 to 06:00: Sleep. Does that make sense, or should I make some changes, like moving exercise to the evenings instead of the mornings?
Now, how about if I reframe it this way? 06:00 to 06:30: Waking up and writing dreams (for psychoanalytical purposes). 06:30 to 07:00: Breakfast and checking my agenda for the day. 07:00 to 08:00: Creative writing (writing new things, new novels). 08:00 to 09:00: Exercise. 09:00 to 10:00: Shower, getting ready, and reading some news. 10:00 to 12:00: Legal deep work. 12:00 to 13:00: Reading non-fiction. 13:00 to 14:00: Lunch and checking messages from friends and family. 14:00 to 15:00: Shallow work (legal or regarding writing). 15:00 to 17:00: Deep work (re-writing and editing stuff that I've written in the past, in order to send them to publishers). 17:00 to 18:00: Hobbies (music, drawing, painting, taking walks). 18:00 to 18:30: Meditation. 18:30 to 19:00: Dinner. \*\*19:00 to 20
