Simple Rules, Complex Behavior

Stephen Wolfram discusses his discovery that even with very simple rules, it's possible to get very complicated behavior in cellular automata, such as the example of rule 30. He suggests that this might be how nature creates complexity and that the secret lies in the computational universe of possible programs.
