I struggle with addiction; I start drinking or using drugs, and it gets bad quickly, with 3-day hangovers and week-long withdrawals. I’ll get sober, but a week or two later, I relapse. I get no joy or tranquility, which makes me give in to drinking and drugs again. I desperately want to be sober and find peace.

The whole point of that is to diminish the physiological response, right? If the goal is to diminish the physiological response, then if a person works to change their physiological response immediately after being triggered, would that over time also diminish the physiological response and therefore break the conditioning? Am I right?
