Fort Knox
Wences Casares, the visionary behind Xapo, took a revolutionary approach to Bitcoin security by constructing what can be described as the Fort Knox of digital currency. He and Federico Morone built underground vaults with armed guards and elaborate security systems to protect Bitcoin wallets, a move that seemed excessive to many in Silicon Valley. However, Wences believed that when responsible for others' money, one must go beyond the norm to ensure safety.
We quickly built the infrastructure, say, okay, what if the price is much, much bigger than what it is right now? And what if we have ten times more coins? And we were very glad we did that at the time.
---
This bold bet paid off, especially when the Mt. Gox exchange collapsed, highlighting the importance of robust security measures 1 2.

Security & Trust
Wences's experience growing up in Argentina gave him unique insights into the importance of trust in financial systems, which he applied to Bitcoin. He recognized that for Bitcoin to succeed, it needed to gain the trust of users accustomed to stable currencies. Through Xapo, Wences aimed to simplify Bitcoin transactions and secure private keys, making the technology accessible without requiring users to understand its complexities.
We want to take care of the problem of keeping the private keys secure, receiving bitcoin for them, making it very easy for them to receive bitcoin, send bitcoin and keeping them secure without them having to understand anything about the technology.
---
This approach was crucial in building trust among skeptical users and investors, paving the way for broader acceptance of Bitcoin 3.
